Knock, Knock

Who’s there?

Summer who?

No really, it’s the middle of May and Summer is nearly here.  How are your plans coming along? Need some suggestions?  We’ve got some great programs in the works.  I feel like maybe I should add an asterisk here and say ‘depending on the passage of a state budget and possible additional cuts, some programs may be…” But I don’t want to. Keeping kids reading and engaged in all the fun parts of learning is crucial over the summer, and we can pull it off in someway, regardless of budget.  Actually, we are hoping to add an adult program to June and a family event to July, still working out the details on those. Here is what we have ready to go:

MakerCamp will be back this summer too! We are so excited to offer this S.T.E.M. based class for kids who have finished 5th grade and up.  We will meet at 10am every Friday morning in July.  Want to know more? Check out google’s site of past projects.

Early Explorers and Preschool Storytime will continue on Tustorytimeesday mornings through July 26th.  Early Explorers is designed for Toddlers-3 year olds, it’s a short program of a few stories, songs and ample time for free play.  Storytime is designed for children 3-5 who have not been to kindergarten yet.  Summer storytime is a great way to get started setting  routines for kids heading to Pre-School in the fall or just a nice way to meet other families with similar aged children.  There are always lots of plans being made at the end of the program for visits to the park and lake.  We are not strict about ages, they are guidelines for our planning purposes but it is up to the parent to chose whichever program best fits their needs and schedule.

We have one special event planned for June, a Read it Before You See it! for The BFG by Roald Dahl.  We are encouraging kids/families to read the book before the program on June 24th.  Extra copies will be available at the Library and there is an audio and e-book version available on WV-READS.  Our intended audience for this are grade school kids.  There will be multiple activities, some writing and lunch.  This will be a 2 hour (drop off) program.  You will need to sign your child in so we can contact you if necessary.

Read It BEFORE You See It (1)

Thanks for reading to the end!

Oh! Wait! I almost forgot to mention, this summer we will debut the Exercise Your Mind Summer Reading Program for Adults! Details coming soon, it will start the same time as our kids program and there will be prizes.
